It's our dream that every child will grow up in a loving family supported by a caring community. By volunteering, you can help us make this dream a reality.
Thanks for Your Creativity, Vounteers! Family & Children’s Service sends out a big “Thank You!” to the volunteers from Campbell Mithun who generously donated their time and the materials to create the centerpieces for our annual Every Family Matters Luncheon. After meeting with our Director of Communications, Annie Lewis, to brainstorm ideas for the event, the Campbell Mithun employees decided to design the centerpieces around “Head, Hands, and Heart” which was not only part of the theme of the luncheon but also an activity used by Family & Children’s Service.* What resulted were unique centerpieces that combined facts about Family & Children's Service along with the Head, Hand and Heart cut-outs. Campbell Mithun donated the materials and about 15 employees contributed more than 25 hours of volunteer time.
* The Head, Hands and Heart activity is something that Family & Children's Service uses to bring people together to learn about one another and help them to use their skills and passions to strengthen their communities.
Team Work
Richfield School and Family & Children's Service Team Up to Create an Awesome Parent Room Our staff from The Family Project has been working with Richfield Intermediate School this past year. When our staff discovered that a new Parent Room was being constructed off the front lobby, they felt that a mural would be the perfect way to draw people’s attention and invite them in.
Maureen Araya, one our School Success staff, knew her brother, artist Mike Carney, would be a good person to ask. With the principal’s permission, the project was a go. Mike led two community visioning sessions, and then designed the mural. He worked with families to paint the mural and during this time, parents got to know one another and talked about ways the Parent Room could best be utilized. Family & Children’s Service donated used furniture that was left from the South Hennepin office, along with paint from another mural project. The Parent Room is now an inviting place for parents to find resources, hold meetings and wait for their children. Our staff held their first parent planning meeting in the new space last week for the end-of-the-year Latino Family Picnic.
